James Bowie

Who was he? 
James Bowie was born in April 1796 in Logan County, Kentucky. He was a soldier, smuggler, and land speculator. He died in the battle of Alamo in Texas.

What did he accomplish in his life time?
Bowie moved to Texas in 1828, and befriended the Mexican vice governor. After, he became a Mexican citizen, was given land grants, and even married the daughter of the vice governor. 

What was he famous for? 
James Bowie was mainly known for his role in the battle of Alamo, and the brawl he had with a sheriff in 1827. Despite the fact that Bowie was seriously injured in this fight, he killed the sheriff with a large knife and became the victor. Stories about this spread, and Bowie rose to fame. His fame resulted in having a knife named after him, and becoming an American folk hero.

Davy Crockett

Who was he? 
Davy Crockett was born on August 17th, 1786, in Tennessee. After he enlisted in the Tennessee militia, he participated in the War of 1812 (the massacre at Tallussahatchee). He was a frontiersman, a politician, and a congressman who also loved to hunt. He died in the battle of Alamo in 1836.

What did he accomplish in his life time?
Davy Crockett's accomplishments include many things. He was a colonel in the militia of Lawrence County, Tennessee, and was a member of Tennessee State House of Representatives. He was elected to Congress as well from 1827 to 1829. 

What was he famous for? 
One of the things Crockett was famous for was when he and Andrew Jackson argued over many issues in Congress; the Indian Removal Act in particular. He was defeated by Jackson twice, which resulted in him to leave for Texas. Crockett participated in the battle of Alamo in Texas; where he was killed.
